Mark Rodefeld, MD
Indiana University, School of Medicine

Dr. Mark Rodefeld is a thoracic surgeon within the Division of Pediatric Cardio-Thoracic Surgery and associate professor of surgery in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Indiana University in Indianapolis.

When Dr. Rodefeld is not performing surgery for his patients, he is dedicated to his research to creating a blood pump that would act as the missing ventricle in single ventricle hearts—the Fontan Blood Pump (https://www.fontanbloodpump.com/). His research aims to place a small pump in the hearts of Fontan patients to emulate a normal two-ventricle circulation, which would extend the life of Fontan repair and could reduce the need for heart transplant.

Virtual Research Reception: June 23 from 4-6 p.m. Central
