Dr. Kiona Y. Allen is the attending physician in cardiology as well as interim medical director of the Regenstein Cardiac Care Unit, medical director of the Single Ventricle Center of Excellence, and associate medical director of the NICU-Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Program at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. She is also an assistant professor of pediatrics (cardiology) at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine.

Dr. Allen’s clinical experience is in both inpatient and outpatient settings, and her research focuses on longitudinal medical, neurodevelopmental, and psychosocial care of patients with critical cardiac disease. As the interim medical director of the Regenstein Cardiac Care Unit at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, Dr. Allen's primary clinical focus is the inpatient care of patients with prolonged length of stay—including patients receiving mechanical circulatory support and single ventricle physiology. Her clinical work involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team that includes developmental specialists, cardiac rehabilitation, and exercise physiologists, along with child life, case managers, social workers, and chaplains. Coinciding with her work in the Regenstein Cardiac Care Unit, Dr. Allen directs the comprehensive Single Ventricle Program and co-directs the NICU-Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Program.
