Dr. Maria Thanjan is assistant professor of clinical pediatrics at Weill Cornell Medical College at Cornell University, and assistant attending pediatrician at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where she is also the director of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at New York-Presbyterian/Queens.
Dr. Thanjan is dedicated to treating children with congenital heart disease. As a mother and a survivor of congenital heart disease herself, she has a unique perspective in counseling her patients and their families. She has a particular interest in pediatric echocardiography and cardiac imaging, and she specializes in fetal echocardiography—allowing her to make the diagnosis of congenital heart lesions prenatally. As a pediatric cardiologist, Dr. Thanjan feels it is her goal to empower families and patients to make the best, most educated decisions in the management of their condition.
She earned her a bachelor’s degree in science at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education at the City University of New York and completed her medical school training and pediatric residency at SUNY-Downstate University Medical Center. She went on to fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Mount Sinai Hospital and is board certified in pediatrics.
